Good Friday Morning,
There really is no place like home – am I right? I think about some of the places on earth and think why would anyone want to live there. They live there because it’s home. We just got back from vacation to Orange Beach, Alabama and it was a great trip. That’s why I haven’t written the last two Fridays. I highly recommend going to the beaches in the south in the fall. This was a first for me, and the weather was amazing! We had a great time with family and no agenda. As much as I enjoyed the beaches of Alabama and time away from the “real world”, it’s always nice to come home.
Right now, my family and I are in between homes though, so there hasn’t been much of a routine for the last couple of weeks. We are moving to a different home within Jasper. We weren’t really in the market to buy a new house, but this home is on family land, has a lot of history, and we are very excited for this blessing and know that God has brought us here to this moment.
Isn’t this true of our home in heaven also? Right now, as Christians we’re in between. Life can be stressful at times, and things can get hard here on earth, but we know this isn’t our permanent home so we long for the day that we are at rest with God in heaven. In John 14:1-3 Jesus says, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there, to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
So this longing for Heaven isn’t morbid, it is just like that feeling on vacation when you know you’re ready to go home. Five years ago when we moved back to Jasper, this home wasn’t on our map for the future, but God planned all the intricate details that have happened in these last few years leading up to this transition, and we are excited about all the blessings He has in store for us! Will you pray with my family that God would use this home to bless us and others for His Kingdom.
When we first moved back to Jasper, there were a lot of changes happening at once, and I was filled with lots of stress and questioning why God had called us back here. I remember hearing Phillip Phillips song “Home” on the radio and being comforted that even though things didn’t make sense to me at the time, God was going to make this place our home.
Father of Life, thank you for all the blessings you bestow on us. Prepare our hearts and minds for the day we come home and meet You face to face. Help us to surrender our plans for the plans You have for us. Help us keep our eyes fixed on You and heaven when life gets tough. We love you God and thank you for our “homes” which are just a tiny taste of the eternal home you have prepared for us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Thank God for Your earthly home and eternal home today,
